With all the traveling Derrick and I did during the Hard Ride Tour there were many great photo opportunities and we definitely ended up with a huge assortment of great pics. However, there was one picture that stood out to me as an absolutely epic vision and neither of us took the photo. The picture is from one of the companies that set up on the infamous ‘Tail of the Dragon’ ( US129 Tennessee to N. Carolina). As you pass these certain spots, photographers shoot multiple pictures of you and then they post them on their website ( small pictures with watermarks) for you to see. You can then order the pictures from them for a fee and they send you the large digital copy of the picture. I had checked out the pictures of us online and purchased about 6 of the better ones, some of which I have already posted on here, and was quite happy. Among the pictures I ordered was this fantastic shot of Derrick negotiating the curves. So good, in fact, that I held off on letting him know about the picture until his son Jonathon got it printed and framed for him. It took a while for Jon to get this done and the whole time I was itching to show Derrick this awesome shot. Finally, this past Thanksgiving weekend, Jon was able to present his father with the photo, beautifully framed. It captures a moment of both exhilaration and great peace and the twisting yellow line in the foreground gives credibility to the task of riding the Dragon. I think it’s the best picture of the entire Hard Ride Tour 2011.
